Samsung LE46B550 Television Review
By Carey Baird
Samsung has recently released several series of LCD televisions, scaled by performance, quality, and price to help consumers match their needs to their price range. The TVs range between the 3 Series and the 8 Series, with the former being of exceptional affordability for LCD TVs and the latter having unrivalled performance. The Series 5 televisions, such as the Samsung LE46B550, represent a good balance between price and balance, and provide a good variety of features while still maintaining a low overall price. The Samsung LE46B550 is an excellent choice for mid-range income families who are looking to expand the capabilities of their home theater, and its forty-six inch screen makes it ideal for living rooms or central entertainment systems. It has good quality in both pictures and movement, and comes with an Ultra Clear Panel to increase the quality of the overall image. It sports a 50,000:1 contrast ratio, making the whites brighter and the blacks darker, and is fully HD ready. It comes with a built-in USB 2.0 port, to allow easy connection for media storage devices and other peripherals. It operates on 1080p resolution, which includes progressive scanning (offering better performance than 1080i’s interlaced scanning). The Samsung LE46B550 has a number of other features to increase performance and your overall viewing experience. The 100Hz Motion Plus reduces the problems commonly associated with LCD TVs, such as motion blur and image tearing, by increasing the refresh rate to nearly double that of a standard television. It has wireless enabled rear speakers, allowing you to use the system’s 600W 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound to your advantage. These features all come together to create an excellent viewing experience suitable for large rooms, as the LCD TV has a wide viewing angle making the image on the screen viewable even from the sides or from below. It also reduces glare, allowing you to clearly see the image even in a brightly-lit room. It is suitable for gaming as well, offering several options to increase the television’s performance when hooked up to gaming consoles, and it can even be used as a monitor for a PC. It also comes equipped with Anynet+, a system that makes use of your remote control to operate your home audio system in tandem or separately from your television, so that it can be used as not only a theater system, but a high quality music player.
